The aim of our conferences is to provide a forum for this region’s leading shark and ray experts, along with students and up and coming early career researchers, to come together to share ideas, update information and report on the progress of the most recent scientific studies in the field of shark and ray research.

This year’s conference consisted of two days of presentations, a poster session and the AGM with Dr. Shelley Clarke as a keynote speaker. Social events included welcome drinks on the evening of the 18th at Royal on the Park and a conference dinner on the Kookaburra River Queen on the evening of the 20th, which included pre-drinks and a 2.5 hour cruise down the Brisbane River.

Oceania Chondrichthyan Society acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the lands and seas throughout Oceania and the wider Indo-Pacific region in which our society and its members live and work. We pay our respects to the First Nations peoples whose deep and enduring connections to Land, Sea, and Sky Country have guided sustainable practices and protected ecosystems for thousands of years. We honour their knowledge systems and continued leadership in ocean and coastal stewardship. We recognise that lands were never ceded and extend our respect to Elders past and present, and to the next generation of Indigenous leaders in marine sciences.
